How a 12-Bag Filter Housing Improved Fruit Juice Clarification

Fruit juice clarification often involves more than choosing a suitable filtration rating. The amount of suspended material, available filtration area and frequency of filter maintenance can all affect the way a filtration system performs in daily production.

A fruit juice processing project in Guangdong, China illustrates this point.

From Plate-and-Frame Filtration to a Multi-Bag Housing

The plant was previously using a plate-and-frame filtration system. Fruit pulp residues and cellulose fibers accumulated on the filter cloth during operation, resulting in frequent cleaning and additional operator work.

For the upgraded system, YuanLv Filter supplied a YDS-D12 12-bag filter housing.

The housing contains 12 filter bags operating in parallel. This configuration provides a larger combined filtration area while keeping the filtration media inside one housing.

The system was used during juice clarification to remove fruit pulp residues, yeast cells and suspended particles.

Project Results

The project reported three main changes after the filtration upgrade:

• Filtration efficiency increased by approximately 40%.

• Routine maintenance was reduced from daily or every-other-day cleaning to approximately once a week.

• Clarified juice turbidity was reported below NTU 1.

The results are specific to this project and its operating conditions. Actual performance depends on factors such as juice characteristics, solids loading, filter media and process conditions.

Why the Configuration Matters

A bag filter housing does more than hold the filter bags. The number of bags, available filtration area and maintenance arrangement all influence how the equipment fits into the production process.

For applications with higher filtration demand, multiple bags operating in parallel can provide a practical alternative to a single-bag arrangement.

The Guangdong project is one example of how changing the filtration configuration can reduce routine intervention while maintaining the required clarification process.
