One of the most critical stages of brewing is lautering. In short, it is the process of separating liquid wort from spent grains. This process takes place on a vessel named Lauter Tun.


The false bottom is the most important component of the lauter tun. There are various false bottoms(lauter tun screens), such as perforated or slotted sheet metal. The most popular is wedge wire false bottom.



Using the wrong false bottom material can cause many problems.

▪ The false bottom is clogged and the flow rate is reduced.

▪ The wrong false bottom will be bent or in a vacuum state, causing the mash to pass through with the wort.
