The Role of Wedge Wire Screen Resin Trap in Water Softener

The water softener utilizes a process known as ion exchange, in which the hardness minerals in water, primarily calcium and magnesium, are exchanged with sodium ions. The central element of this process is the resin tank, which holds resin beads responsible for capturing these minerals.


However, over time, the resin beads become saturated with hardness minerals and need to be regenerated. During this regeneration process, a backwash is initiated by the control valve to flush out the captured minerals and prepare the resin beads for another round of softening. The role of the resin trap is to prevent the resin beads from escaping into the plumbing system during this process, which is where the wedge wire screen comes into play.
