How do Automatic Backwash Filters work in water treatment?

The functioning of these automatic filters is rooted in a simple yet effective concept: the reversal of water flow. 

1. Filtration Phase: Contaminated water flows through the filter media, capturing particles, sediments, and other impurities along the way. The filter media can vary, with options such as sand, diatomaceous earth, or even specialized membranes depending on the application.

2. Accumulation of Contaminants: As the water passes through the filter media, it accumulates contaminants, gradually reducing the filter's efficiency.

3. Backwash Cycle: To restore the filter's performance, the system automatically initiates a backwash cycle at regular intervals or when certain predetermined conditions are met. During this cycle, the direction of water flow is reversed.

4. Dislodging Impurities: The reverse flow dislodges and flushes out the accumulated impurities from the filter media. These impurities are then carried away from the filter and discharged as waste.

5. Resumption of Filtration: After the backwash cycle is complete, the filter resumes its regular filtration operations, providing clean and purified water.
