Grit separation and screening is one of the necessary steps in wastewater/water treatment filtration. 


What is grit in water treatment?

Generally speaking, Grit includes sand, gravel, cinder, or other heavy solid materials that are “heavier” (higher specific gravity) than the organic biodegradable solids in the wastewater. 

What is the meaning of removing grit?

Grit removal is the process used to remove sand, silt, and grit from water. Grit (and sand) removal is often found in the headworks of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP).

Why grit separation in the water or wastewater treatment process?

Obviously, the grit can interfere with treatment processes or cause undue mechanical wear and increased maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment in the water treatment process. Therefore, the early stage becomes very important for the screening and separation of grit.
