A process that removes particles of a certain size from liquids is called liquid filtration. 

Liquid Filtration is a fundamental unit operation extensively practiced throughout the chemical process, petroleum, and allied industries.

Many industries can use liquid filtration systems, like water treatment, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage, and other industries.

• Water treatment

There are four major water treatment processes: coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Water treatment is the most common liquid filtration system. The end use may be drinking, industrial water supply, irrigation, river flow maintenance, water recreation, or many other uses, including being safely returned to the environment. 

• Pharmaceuticals

Another big industry that uses liquid filtration systems is the pharmaceutical industry. Every type of medicine goes through rigorous quality control tests to ensure impurities are removed from the final product, from over-the-counter drugs to prescription medications.
